I was lucky enough to work with Beryn and her husband to capture some maternity shots just as the sun was going down. She was so willing to play with different looks, and props that I had brought along. The shoot had its challenges, we'd just had a crazy amount of rain and the mosquitos were out in full force! Still we soldiered on and together, wound up capturing some amazing moments!
As a Winnipeg Photographer there is a set period of time that we can capture that late evening sun that changes throughout the seasons. I love to work during what photographers call Golden Hour as much as possible because I find it creates the most beautiful results.
During the summer time the perfect sunlight is really between 7-8 PM, particularly out in the open. It's beginning to set and gives a beautiful golden glow to the scene around it.
In the winter time our sun can be gone as soon as 4:30 PM so Summer truly becomes the busiest time to capture photos.
I specialise in portrait and lifestyle photography here in Winnipeg and Manitoba. Maternity and Family photos like this are incredible to do in Assiniboine Forest. There are so many places to compose your pictures.

Here, Mom and Dad were posting just as the sun was beginning to set behind the trees creating an amazing back light and magical glow. Mamas to be are already glowing and being able to add this extra golden glow adds a warmth to the photo that just makes it really pop.

Here we had a fun flower crown that paired beautifully with the chosen outfit and the oranges added to the golden hue and brought out the warmth of Beryn's skin and just added an extra layer of stunning.

Here we had an outfit and prop change and the sun had started to disappear a little moree behind the trees. Because of this we had less light flare and more even lighting. Having a lot of light but being able to keep a client in the shade is ideal in most scenarios as it helps to diffuse the light. It added a slightly cooler tone to the composition. We added the white cover up and new flower crown to create a free spirited and natural vibe. This was a styled shoot and so I had a plan in place when they agreed to model for me. I provided the majority of the props for the shoot and allowed the clients to go through and pick what they like to use.
For Maternity clients in particular I often bring my collection of cover ups because they are flowy and adapt to fit most. They add a layer of etherealness to client's photos and experience.

I always ask clients to bring objects that mean something to them, or that they would like featured in their photos. Beryn is from Kenya and wanted to feature her culture in the photos. I love when clients wanted to feature their culture in photos. The client actually came up with this idea, wanting to wear the beads over their bare belly and these photos turned out to be some of our favourites. One thing I absolutely love about being a Winnipeg Photographer is the fact that we are so blessed to be a multicultural hub. I love to capture people celebrating their culture even in subtle ways, like the Kenya bracelet. If you look closely, you will see it is feature in all of the photos.

Assiniboine Forest wound up being the perfect location for this shoot as we had a wide open space in nature where we could roam. Even if you don't travel too far you can capture stunning photos right in the centre of the city.
